Development of the system of continuous and selective insulation monitoring and protection for distribution networks 6-35 kV

Project author: National Mining University, Department of Renewable Energy Sources, Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine).

Project objective: Development of a device for selective protection against asymmetric damage of distribution networks 6-35 kV that is able to operate independently from network neutral mode

Project background: The value of insulation impedance is an important characteristic of insulation monitoring and electric safety because of the value and importance determination of current ground fault. One of the key factors in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of electrical installations is the level of active resistance relating to the ground. Local reduction of active insulation resistance of any part may be the cause of the sharp decline in the total resistance of electrical grid relating to the ground as a whole and lead to emergency mode. Insulation assessment of electrical networks and installations can be made from the size of resistive insulation. Low levels of this parameter indicates the presence of weak points in insulation, large leakage currents to ground, which is dangerous for staff and fire development. Based on the method of continuous and selective insulation monitoring is possible to develop a device for asymmetric damage selective protection of 6-35 kV distribution networks that will be able to work independently from network neutral mode.
