Technology of slagheaps burning sites mapping from multi-temporal data of multispectral space imagery Project author: National Mining University, Department of Geoinformation Systems, Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine) Project objective: Identification and mapping of slagheaps burning sites using the developed geographic information technology and the RAPID GIS functional tools of space imagery thematic processing. Project background: Identification of smoldering slagheaps location is an important task of ecological mapping of technogenic regions. The main objectives of slagheaps thermal state analysis are: mapping of slagheaps location sites; localization of combustion centres and analysis of spatial-temporal dynamics of combustion processes propagation; assessment of fire hazard (tendency to catch fire) in order to take timely measures for reducing slagheaps anthropogenic impact on the environment; identification sites of slagheaps endurance burning. Using methods of multi-temporal multispectral space imagery processing can significantly reduce the financial and time costs for solving these problems in comparison with ground methods. The scientists of National Mining University developed the geoinformation technology slagheaps thermal state analysis from space imagery and the RAPID GIS specialized geographic information system is created. The use of the RAPID GIS enhances the efficiency of slagheaps burning sites identifying from relatively inexpensive space-based data. |
