Development the method directed on testing environmental conditions

Project author: National Mining University, Ecology Department, Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine)

Project objective: Assessment of mutagenic health effects in mine workers as basis for development the method directed on testing environmental conditions and the effectiveness of natural adaptogenes.

Project background: Occupational health and safety is one of the most important aspects of human concern. Mining has always been among the most hazardous of occupations, and so with the increasing demand for coal and minerals, health safety in mines assumes even greater importance. Damage to the genome is probably the most important and fundamental cause of the development of anomalies and degenerative diseases. Therefore, it is important (i) to clarify how the level of genetic changes in somatic human cells depends on the technogenic load on the environment; (ii) on the basis of the BMCyt assay in cells of buccal mucosa to determine the groups of people with high genetic risk and (iii) to study the possibility in decrease of cytogenetic disorders in human organisms, induced by the action of harmful occupational factors, on the basis of therapeutic actions including the use of physiologically active preparations of the natural origin.
