The Research and Development Department (hereinafter referred to as R&D Department) was established in accordance with the Laws of Ukraine “On Education,” “On Higher Education,” “On Scientific and Scientific and Technical Activities,” and “On Priority Areas in Science and Technology.”

The R&D Department is a single scientific unit at the University, established on the basis of existing specialized sectorial R&D laboratories, as well as research groups at the University’s chairs.

The main goal of the R&D Department is to obtain and apply scientific knowledge, implement the up-to-date state strategy for the development of science and technology in the system of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine and other sectoral ministries.

The main tasks of the R&D Department:

· organizing and conducting fundamental and applied research aimed at implementing priority areas of development in science, technology, science-intensive technologies, and education, using all opportunities to increase the significance of scientific activity at the University as the basis for training scientific, engineering, and teaching personnel;

· facilitating the broad participation of scientists in the formation and resolution of socio-economic problems on the basis of proposals from national, intergovernmental, sectoral, intersectoral, regional, and interuniversity scientific and technical programs;

· training highly qualified personnel through postgraduate and doctoral programs;

· supporting young scientists, postgraduate students, doctoral students, and talented young people;

· creating the necessary conditions for performers that stimulate the development of technical and technological innovations, ensure the reduction of the “science-to-production” innovation cycle while increasing the competitiveness of the products created;

· increasing the practical impact of scientific research, considering the ultimate needs of industry and society for its results;

· developing and implementing the integration of fundamental research between universities, institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and industry;

· development of mutually beneficial international scientific and technical relationships, implementation of joint research projects while preserving and protecting national priorities, international exchange of scientific and technical information and technologies, joint publication of scientific articles and monographs, holding exhibitions and fairs, etc.;

· organizational and methodological guidance of inventive, patent and licensing work, protection of the priority of scientific research results, registration of applications for anticipated inventions (discoveries);

· recovery of the experimental and material base through centralized capital investments, funds transferred by enterprises, scientific activities, etc.;

· holding scientific and technical conferences, seminars, exhibitions, presentations, etc.;

· preparing and distributing of research, development, and engineering (RD&E) advertising materials;

· providing regulatory, methodological, and informational support for scientific and technical activities, thematic collections on scientific, technical, and economic issues (Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Expertise and Information (UkrISTEI), etc.;

· development of the infrastructure for scientific activities.
